Are you in need of tips for blogging about fashion?
The fashion blogging industry has exploded over the last few years, with more and more budding fashion writers starting up their own blogs. However, with more bloggers than ever before, competition is fierce. If you want to start blogging about fashion and want to ensure it’s a success, follow these five tips.
Have A Plan
Okay, so you may not need a full-blown business plan (although it wouldn’t hurt), but you need to have some kind of plan at least. Do you want your blog to be solely about fashion? Will it have a niche, such as alternative or plus-sized fashion? How many pieces of content can you realistically write and post each week or month? Put together a content calendar full of ideas, alongside your plan to ensure you start off on the right foot.
Use Your Voice
When you’re writing about fashion, it’s crucial you use your own voice. This is what will make you stand out from the thousands (if not millions) of other fashion bloggers. What makes you unique? Do you have a tongue-in-cheek personality? Do you speak about a true expert when it comes to all of the trends? Perhaps you’re a person of very few words, so would rather let all of the images do the talking? Whatever your voice is, use it!
Take Stunning Photos
If there’s one thing that every fashion blogger needs to be able to do, it’s to be able to take incredible photos. Nobody is going to read your blog if you’ve got grainy or fuzzy photos of the outfits. Sophia Amoruso credits her success as a fashion mogul, running Nasty Gal, to the innovative photos she took of her models wearing the clothes. If you’re doing it alone, then you’ll definitely need to invest in a tripod and timer. However, you can also rope in friends and family members to take the photos, as long as they know how to use a camera.
Help Your Readers
Your readers want to know where you got the clothes from, how much they were, and how they can buy them. That’s the whole point of fashion blogging! Make sure you’re providing valuable references for your readers by linking to the brands and including all of the relevant information. Snapped yourself in a stunning pair of Balenciaga shoes? Tell your readers how much they were, where you got them from, and perhaps even provide a more affordable alternative, too.
Monetizing
Now comes the bit that takes you from a fashion blogger into a business owner. How are you going to monetize your blog? Sure, you could do it for the fun, but if you want to make some money out of it, then you need to know how. Once you’ve built a substantial blog following, you may find that brands start reaching out to you. However, if this doesn’t happen, then you could always reach out to them. Find the details of their PR team, then get in touch. The worst they can say is, “No.”
Fashion blogging is a competitive industry nowadays, but it’s not entirely impossible to break through. As long as you have something unique about you, and can get that across in words and photos, then you should be on a roll.
